Frequently Asked Questions
General
How do I talk to someone at the studio?
The quickest way to reach us is by email at kristysdanceacademy@gmail.com. We can usually respond faster this way. If you call the studio, we may not be able to answer if we’re in class or away from the desk.
What classes do you have for my dancer’s age?
Visit www.kristysdanceacademy.com and register to see available classes for your child’s age and preferred style.
How do I pay for dance?
You can pay online with a credit card at www.kristysdanceacademy.com by clicking the “Register/Sign In” button at the top right.
Other payment options:
-
Cash/Check: Bring to the studio on Mon, Tues, or Thurs between 4:30–7:30 PM.
-
Auto Draft: Monthly balance drafted on the 15th.
-
Mail: 217 Winston Road, Jonesville, NC 28642.
-
Drop Box: Envelope with payment in our mailbox by the entrance.
Note: A 2% surcharge applies to credit card transactions.
Can parents watch their child in class?
We do not allow parents, grandparents, or other spectators in the classroom. Over time we’ve learned children focus and learn better without an audience.
Our staff will meet your child at the door and help them to class. If your child is nervous or crying, we’ll follow your guidance—either trying again or letting them return another time. We will keep you updated during class if needed.
You’ll get to see their progress at our end-of-year recital!
How can my child join the competition dance team?
Dancers must be enrolled with us for at least one year or be approved by Kristy. Tryouts are held each spring, and information will be sent out ahead of time.
What happens in inclement weather?
Your child’s safety is our priority. If weather is questionable, check your email or Facebook for closure announcements. We serve multiple school districts and do not follow a single school calendar. Make-up classes may be scheduled at the program director’s discretion.
What if my child will be absent or is withdrawing from class?
Please email kristysdanceacademy@gmail.com to let us know. Tuition is charged monthly and holds your child’s spot, so absences are not refunded.
If you’re withdrawing, email Crystal Nunnemaker as soon as possible. Tuition will continue until we receive written notice. All fees are non-refundable.
What are your fees?
-
Monthly tuition varies by the number of classes.
-
$30 one-time registration fee.
-
Costume fees: $60 deposit in October and $60 balance in November (for classes requiring costumes).
See our website for current tuition rates.
Can I rent the studio for a private event?
Yes! Email Kristy Neely at kristysdanceacademy@gmail.com for details.
Can my child attend if they aren’t potty trained?
Yes. Have them wear a diaper or pull-up and bring extras plus a change of clothes. If a change is needed and no clothes are packed, a $20 fee will be added to your account for using one of our leotards.
What should my dancer keep in their bag?
-
All classes: Dance shoes (labeled), tights, leotard, hair ties, brush/comb, water bottle, change of clothes.
-
Older dancers: Deodorant, personal items, small first-aid kit, hairspray, snack (if at multiple classes).
Avoid valuables—KDA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Dance Gear, Shoes, & Costumes
Where do I order leotards, skirts, and dance shorts?
Order from our KDA Shop at shopnimbly.com/kristysdanceacademy. No specific color or style is required.
Where do I order shoes and tights?
Order through our online store via the Dance Gear tab on our website. We size dancers in-studio for ballet and tap shoes (street shoe sizes don’t apply). Only contemporary shoes can be ordered without sizing. We do not allow black ballet shoes. We recommend ordering through KDA to ensure uniform style and color.
What shoes and attire does my dancer need?
-
Tap classes: Leotard, tights, tap shoes (see Crystal for sizing).
-
Discovery & Sparkle Ballet/Jazz: Leotard, tights, ballet shoes.
-
Sparkle, Emerald & Diamond Ballet/Jazz: Leotard, tights, contemporary shoes.
-
Tumbling: Leotard & convertible/stirrup tights, or t-shirt & shorts (no shoes).
-
Fitness/Ninja/Hip Hop: T-shirt & shorts or leotard/tights with clean tennis shoes.
Will my child need a recital costume?
Yes, if they are in ballet, tap, or jazz. Only one combo costume is needed for multiple classes, and we switch shoes for different routines. Dancers are sized in the fall. Costume fees are due in October and November.
Are the routines and costumes appropriate?
Absolutely! All music, choreography, and costumes are age-appropriate. You’re welcome to view past recital costumes—just ask Crystal. We also celebrate various holidays and post related events on Facebook.
